Written from an American Baptist point of view, the research contained in this thesis presents the relevant scholarship from two evangelical traditions with opposing BHS views, namely, American Baptist and Pentecostal. The perspective of the charismatic movement appears in the study because it aligns with some classical Pentecostal views though in other ways it is closer to the Baptist BHS position.
